World Mapper gives an interesting birds eye view of where more of the female managers sit. Not suprising, North America and Western Europe top the charts with the most female executives.
A couple of months ago in a panel discussion led by the European Professional Women's Network, 3 top female exectives were asked if they felt any adversion or resistance to moving up in the organization as a result of being a female. Their answer was an astounding "no". But then followed by, "But I work for an American company. If I worked within a European or Latin organization, I'm sure my answer would be different." So apparently, there is still some distance to be covered in the ease of vertical movement for women in these organizations.
I thought it was interesting that the EPWN panel considered all European organisations the same. I am from the UK where equality in the workplace is completely supported. In my own career which would count as managerial according to World Mapper, I have encountered no problems with progression as a result of being female. In fact, it is quite the opposite as you have the opportunity to stand out from the crowd particularly in male dominated industries.
Do you think that this point of view varies around Europe? I would be interested to know how "equal" the workplace is in Poland compared to Portugal for example.
